I grew up in a tourist attracted southern coastal town adorning the Gulf of Mexico, about an hour from New Orleans. We lived in an old antebellum home not far from the beaches and casinos.

One late night, around 10pm, my grandmother asked me to go to her room and get her pill box for her so she could take her dose before bed. I walked up the dark stairway into an even darker hallway. All the lights on the second floor were shut off.

The first room was my teenage uncle's room; music blaring loudly from his room. I continued on and passed my mother's bedroom which the door was open and I kept walking toward my grandmother's room. Something caught my attention from the corner of my eye. I just saw 2 red glowing eyes. I turned around and stood in front of my mother's room to investigate this further. Here I am in front of the doorway of my mother's room and this black fog or black smoke in the figure of a tall man was directly in front of me! Its red eyes glowed fiercely as though it was glaring at me. I could hear it breathing creepy exhales. Suddenly, it darted away...like light hitting mirrors almost...the way the black smoke hit the blinds covering the windows. The blinds fell and it was as though it went through them.

I immediately turned on the light and entered my mother's room shutting the door behind me. I moved the blinds out of my way and opened the window. I looked out the window and I didn't see anything. I closed the window and began to look all over the room; in the closet, under the bed, under the dresses…nothing.

I have no idea what that was, But I do not feel it's a ghost. Not only because of the shadow form and red eyes. The overall presence I felt from this, didn't feel ghostly.

There was another incident. My mother was in the kitchen cooking while my brother and I were playing in the living room watching TV. It was evening, maybe around 7PM. My brother and I heard some breathing sounds around the stairs. Like, not of one, but maybe 3 of these things and we saw 3 shadowy smoky/foggy dark things.

I began to freak out and my mother yelled from the kitchen, "What are you doing to her??" To which my brother responded, "It's not me, t's the ghosts!" I remember he walked near the stairway as I was too afraid to dare take any steps near that direction. He looked up the stairs and he looked back at me saying, "Ooooh." As though he knew they wanted me. It slightly felt good to know I had confirmation that he too seen it.

My mother finally came out the kitchen to tell us dinner was ready. She noticed me and my brother staring at the staircase so she walked over to investigate herself but by then they were gone.

Throughout my childhood as I lived in this home, I would see shadows on the walls that seemed to follow me. Not the shadowy/foggy figures but shadows. There was one shadow in particular that seemed to always wear a hat. I'd hear the same breathy sounds I've heard before. I eventually moved out at 12 and didn't see it anymore after that.

I've done research and I'm not sure what it was. I've read similar stories to mine, sometimes scarier even. Some say they're demons or djinns while others say they're just like any other ghost just in a shadowy form. The one theory that made sense to me was that they are drawn to those who have psychic energy or natural sensitivity to entities that are inter-dimensional. I rarely hear of them speaking or communicating, only watching/observing. I know that it wasn't some benevolent force. Whatever it was, I felt in my whole body, to run, to flee, to get away from it. I knew the energy, I perceived from it, was dark and this wasn't something innocent or friendly. I continue my research to this day, reading other testimonies of similar sightings. I can only speculate and theorize, but at least I now know I'm not alone and neither are you. ♥
